Do you know that many Christians miss their blessings in life? These 20 Ways Christians Block or Miss Their Blessings will blow your mind. Each day, a lot of people pray for blessings and a breakthrough in life but hardly will some of their prayers go answered. Sometimes, the situation seems like God doesn’t hear and listen to the prayers of people at all. On the contrary, God has promised us a lot of blessings if only His children will follow His word and obey unquestionably. See Deut. 28 and 29. The Bible has emphatically said “God’s ears are not too dull to hear us neither are His hands too short to save us” but our iniquities separate us from Him.

Is it possible to be blocking your own blessings despite the several days of fasting and prayers for the blessings? Well, here are some of the ways you could be blocking or missing your own blessings.

20 Ways Christians Block or Miss Their Blessings

  1. Not seeking the Kingdom of God.

It is important to note that God has placed a high premium on His Word and He is not ready to lower His standards for anyone. The Bible emphatically said: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and ALL THESE THINGS shall be added unto you”, Matt. 6:33.

These days, people are only interested in miracles but not the God of miracles, healing but not the Healer, money, material things and craving for the things of creation instead of the Creator (all these things).

  1. Seeking Your Own Will Instead of God’s Will and His Word

One of the funny reasons for which a lot of Christians miss their blessings is programming God in their minds and expecting the blessings to come in the manner and pattern in which they thought. Once it did not come in that way, they tend to fight it. This is creaturely thoughts of what we expect instead of the Creator’s Will and Word.

In 2 Kings 5, Naaman, the captain of the Syrian army travelled to see the Prophet Elisha in Israel expecting the prophet to heal him from his leprosy. Naaman got angry when he was directed by the Prophet Elisha to just simply wash himself in the Jordan River seven times. Today, many Christians are like Naaman. We want God to work for us according to our own methods, perceived ways and ideas.

  1. Wrong attitudes towards people

Each day, God opens many great doors for His children but their attitudes close those doors. After praying to God for the blessings, the next thing that will keep the door open and pull down the blessings is your attitude and relationship towards your fellow man. God brings blessings through human beings. Even if God decides to send angels to bring your blessings, your attitudes towards them is still paramount. In Matt. 13:58 and Mark 6:5, Jesus Christ did not perform many miracles among His own people because of their unbelief and negative attitudes towards Him.

  1. Wickedness and withholding good from people

Proverbs 3:27 says that: “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act”. On a more serious note Proverbs 21:13 says that Whoever shuts his ears at the cry of the poor will cry out himself and not be answered”. Do not block your own blessings through wickedness and withholding good from other people when it is in your capacity to do so.

What is the use to deliberately delay someone’s blessings, small financial aids, salaries and people’s livelihood without any justifiable cause? Trying to delay someone’s blessing is like acting for the devil for that is one of the ways he causes frustration and disappointments to the children of God.

  1. Bad attitude towards giving and assisting people

Have you ever heard of the saying: “Givers never lack?” Giving in general is one of the ways people receive a lot of blessings. Do not be selfish. A lot of people have millions of dollars in their account but they are not happy in life. Learn to freely give to assist people and see the greater doors that will open for you.

“If there is a poor man among your brothers in any of the towns of the land that the LORD your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward your poor brother. Rather be openhanded and freely lend him whatever he needs…Give generously to him and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this, the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to do”, Deut. 15:7,8&10

  1. Robbing God

Have you ever seen anybody who gladly blesses armed robbers and thieves and wish them well in life? No way! People rather rain insults and curses on them.

“Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, ‘wherein have we robbed thee?’ In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation”, Malachi 3:7-11. Nonpayment of tithes brings curses and wipes away your blessings and protection.

  1. Disobedience

I am yet to see the one who gladly rewards his children for deliberately disobeying him. Disobedience is punishable and blocks one’s opportunities and promotions in life but obedience leads to open doors.

Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God”, Deut. 28:1

  1. Unforgiveness

You have no idea what unforgiveness could cause you. Your unwillingness to forgive will always block your prayers and your blessings. God, in His Word has said that He cannot hear your prayers and attend to your requests if you are not willing to forgive others.

“But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not give your sins”, Matt. 6:15. You must learn to forgive others if you want God to forgive you. Unforgiveness is a way of breaking God’s law.

  1. Despising Men of God and the Work of God

The proliferation of many churches, upsurge in deception, magic and false prophecies have dragged the name and office of prophets and men of God into disrepute. This does guarantee anyone to despise and disregard men of God as basis to reject the Word and Work of God. It is a terrible thing to insult truly anointed men of God even if they mess up.

And the LORD told him: “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you that they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king”, 1 Samuel 8:7. God took a serious offence about the manner the people despised and rejected Moses’ instruction and God saw that to be a rejection of Himself but not Moses.

David realized that the fact that King Saul messed up did not give him the license to kill him, hence he was afraid to touch the “anointed one”.

  1. Not reading and studying the Word of God

You have no idea of the blessings you miss for not reading your Bible. In Rev. 1:3, the Bible said “Blessed is the one who reads and hears the word in this prophecy”. There is a blessing for those who read and hear the Word of God.
