Scripture: John 8:36
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
Two guys found themselves in prison for crimes their grandparents committed. Their lawyer promised to get them out of prison as soon as possible but it never happened. At a point, they became fed up and decided to help themselves.
They planned a prison break. But on the night before the prison break, one decided not continue with the plan but the other one went ahead and eventually succeeded. The next morning, he found himself outside of the prison walls….freedom at last.
He taught that he was free so he decided to get something to eat in a restaurant. He was in the restaurant eating and he saw his face on the TV as a wanted person. He quickly dashed out and started running for his life though no one was chasing him.
You see! ln life, it is possible to be free and yet not be free. To put it in Jesus’s own words…”YOU CAN BE FREE BUT NOT FREE INDEED”. Though he was out of the prison walls, yet he was constantly looking over his shoulders to see if someone has recognized him. He lived in fear and uncertainty until he was re-arrested.
But the one who remained in prison was eventually set free after a while for good conduct. He was never re-arrested; he didn’t have to look over his shoulder to check who was watching. He didn’t live in fear because he was free indeed.
You are not safe until you are saved.
Are you just free or free indeed.
Time for Self-Assessment
- Do you feel you are safe as a Christian but still feel that you are mentally and spiritually enslaved? [
- Do you always walk in fear thinking that someone or something will definitely appear one day and harm you?
- Do you always feel insecure and have it at the back of your mind that you are not free?
- Are you feeling ensnared and enslaved emotionally and mentally about your sins?
If sin is the cause then don’t worry! 1 John 1:9 says that “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness”.
Live a free life if Jesus is your redeemer indeed.
